Raspberry, Cacao & Banana Smoothie

Happy Monday and hope you all had a good labour day weekend! Today I am sharing a smoothie recipe that I feel is perfect for these last summer days we all seem to be holding on to. Its tangy yet sweet with a hint of bitterness from the super dark chocolate and honestly? Everything goes so well together in this smoothie! It is so creamy and thick, it has protein and its just dang tasty and refreshing.

This is the perfect year-round smoothie because you can use frozen fruit, but you definitely get bonus points if you picked raspberries this summer and froze them yourself! Did I do that? No, I did not pick a single berry this summer. Its kind of tragic actually. We have so many good berry picking farms in Nova Scotia but I was so freaking busy between vacations at the cottage, work and planning our wedding! Not to mention our big birthday weekend…

The inspiration

Speaking of our big birthday weekend, this smoothie was actually inspired by the smoothie I got on my birthday when we stayed downtown! We stayed at the Sutton place hotel which is brand new and super lovely! However, due to covid, they didn’t have an option to go eat a cute hotel breakfast like we were hoping. Luckily, we know Halifax really well and had a ton of options in mind for where we could go for yummy vegan options.

We settled on Dilly Dally cafe which has a vegan breakfast sandwich (and is open very early… perfect for me hehe). But we didn’t expect to stumble upon an awesome new spot on the way! We found Sprout Therapy on spring garden road and popped in because the store front looked so cute. We’re really happy we did! They had a HUGE smoothie menu! All their food is plant-based and everything is so healthy and fresh.

I ordered a smoothie that was banana, raspberry and cacao and it had a base of their homemade pumpkin seed mylk. It was soooo yummy I just had to re-create it for the blog! I put my own spin on it because I wanted to add protein powder so it could be a full breakfast. I made it every single morning last week, its just too yummy!

In case you’re curious, Greg ordered “The Olivia” since it was my birthday and it was also the best thing ever! Almond butter, banana and dates, plus the homemade mylk. It tasted like caramel heaven so I think Greg is going to re-create that one for his page!
