This artisan-style loaf bakes up to be deliciously golden and crusty on the outside with an airy, light, and chewy crumb on the inside. Whether you’re new or already on your homemade bread-baking journey, this recipe is a must-have on your list.

I’ve been baking bread for years and tweaking numerous recipes to come up with the best one yet before sharing with you all. And finally, I’ve done it! Keep a loaf in your kitchen at all times to slice up and use for vegan sandwiches, avocado toast, dunking in soup, and so much more!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • The easiest bread recipe ever! You won’t find any sourdough starters, hard-to-find flours, or advanced steps in this recipe. This crusty artisan bread is easy to make – even beginner bread bakers can master it!
  • Ready in a day. Unlike sourdough and other bread recipes, this easy no-knead bread can be prepped, baked, and served in the same day.
  • A recipe you can repeat. Because it’s so simple and made with ingredients already in your kitchen, you can make this no-knead Dutch oven bread recipe on repeat. After all, there’s nothing like having fresh homemade bread ready to eat at all times!

Tried and tweaked to perfection

After making this bread dozens of times, I started playing around with add-ins. It quickly became a go-to base for all kinds of fun twists. The dough is super forgiving, so once you’re comfortable with the original, don’t be afraid to experiment.

Here are a few of our favorite variations:

  • Molasses & oats: adds a deep, cozy flavour and soft crumb (perfect for breakfast toast).
  • Beet powder + pink salt: A Valentine’s favourite: pretty, earthy, and totally unique.

Others I’d love to try next:

  • Rosemary, garlic & sea salt – Savoury, fragrant, and incredible with soups or vegan butter.
  • Cinnamon swirl – Roll in brown sugar and cinnamon for a lightly sweet, snackable loaf.

Once you get the hang of the base, the possibilities are endless! and honestly, half the fun for me is seeing what works.

Make-ahead option

Instead of letting the dough rise quickly on the kitchen counter, transfer the dough in the covered bowl to the fridge and let it rise overnight. Let it come down to room temperature before shaping and baking the dough the next day.

Ideas for serving

Once the baked bread is completely cool, it’s ready to be sliced and eaten! There are endless ways to enjoy it but these ideas will have your mouth watering:

  • Toast the slices, slather them with tofu ricotta, and top with sliced tomatoes, basil leaves, and balsamic reduction.
  • Rip off a chunk and dip it into soups and stews!
  • Serve small toasted pieces for dunking in your favourite spreads.
  • It’s the perfect artisanal bread for any sandwich.

Even if the leftovers go stale, you can use them to make homemade croutons or in vegan stuffing. The stale slices could even be used to make vegan French toast.

Storing your bread the right way:

To keep your loaf fresh, store it at room temperature in an airtight container or tightly wrapped for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze whole or sliced for up to 1 month. Slicing before freezing makes it easy to grab just what you need.

Easy fixes:

Slightly stale? Wrap slices in a damp paper towel and foil, then warm gently to revive moisture without losing texture.

Crust gone soft? Pop it in a 400°F (200°C) oven for 5–7 minutes to re-crisp.
