Velvety Smooth Vegan Hot Chocolate

I am keeping us all warm and cozy this winter with this amazing Velvety Smooth Vegan Hot Chocolate! Made with real chocolate (not just cocoa powder), nondairy milk (I use oat) and a few options for sweetener! This hot chocolate is velvety, smooth and rich. The perfect thing to make when you need coziness and also chocolate.

There’s nothing better than a creamy mug of hot chocolate on a chilly January night! The world is still hectic and scary these days, which is why I am all for creating small moments in your day that give you peace. Whether its a nice hot shower, playing with your pets, watching your favourite show, or making some good ol hot chocolate!

The details…

Like I said above, this recipe is super simple and also gives you options for sweetener.  I use 70% dark chocolate for this recipe (mostly because its almost always dairy-free) so I find it a bit too bitter for me. I always add a splash of vanilla creamer to the nondairy milk to add sweetness, but sweetened nondairy milk, some sugar, or maple syrup would do the trick too! Or, if you are a dark chocolate lover, try it as-is! It will be rich and decadent without too much sweetness.

Basically, you just combine the ingredients in a pot and heat it on a medium heat, whisking until the chocolate melts into the milk. Then pour into your mug, add some marshmallows (I use Dandies vegan marshmallows) and enjoy! Oh, and I sprinkled on a bit of cocoa powder and chocolate shavings to make it pretty ;).

Velvety Smooth Vegan Hot Chocolate

  • Author: Liv B
  • Yield: 2 servings

Description

Velvety smooth and rich vegan hot chocolate.

Ingredients

  • 40g dark chocolate (I use the 70% Lindt bar, and this equals 4 squares), finely chopped
  • 2 1/2 cups nondairy milk (I use unsweetened oat milk)
  • sweetener of choice, to taste (I actually replace 1/2 cup of the nondairy milk with vanilla creamer. You can just add sugar or liquid sweetener to taste!)
  • marshmallows, if desired

Instructions

  1. In a pot on medium heat, add all ingredients except marshmallows and heat, whisking constantly, until chocolate is dissolved and mixture is hot/steaming.
  2. Pour into serving mugs and top with marshmallows. Enjoy!
