Vegan Coffee FAQs

Is coffee vegan?

Coffee is naturally vegan. Coffee is made from roasting the seeds (coffee beans) from the Coffea plant, a flowering plant in the Rubiaceae family. It’s when people add animal products like dairy milk to their coffee that make them not vegan. Either order your coffee without animal products, or, to be safe, enjoy one of the many vegan coffee recipes listed after this Q&A section.

Can vegans drink coffee?

Yep, vegans can drink coffee. If ordering coffee at a coffee shop, all vegans have to do is make sure they order it with a non-dairy milk option and that any of the syrups/sauces/toppings are vegan. If you’re making it at home, simply use your favorite vegan coffee creamer or plant-based milk!

Is coffee mate vegan?

Coffee Mate makes a line of plant-based creamers that are vegan and dairy-free. Coffee Mate’s vegan coffee creamers come in many different flavours using various bases including almond, coconut, and oat.

Best vegan milk for coffee

Oat milk is the best vegan milk for coffee (according to a lot of people), but what kind you buy helps. The “whole fat” version (like whole milk but vegan obviously) is richer and creamier. The best vegan milk for coffee is one that is creamy and somewhat thick. Homemade vegan milk like cashew milk, almond milk, and oat milk is a great option for vegan coffee creamer because you can decrease the amount of water used to make the dairy-free milk thicker.

What are the best vegan coffee creamers?

This is an answer you might not like: the best vegan coffee creamer is the one you enjoy! But some of the more popular vegan coffee creamer options include: Oatly Barista version, Silk Soy Creamer Original, canned coconut milk, Califia Farms Barista version, So Delicious coconut milk creamer, Nutpods, Chobani Oat Milk Creamer, and Planet Oat Creamer.

Are there vegan coffee pods?

Smart Sips makes vegan coffee pods! I’m not being paid to say it, I just found them through a quick google search and they look good!

How to make vegan bulletproof coffee?

Vegan bulletproof coffee is either made with coconut oil or MCT oil.

What’s the difference between iced coffee and an iced latte?

The type of coffee. Iced lattes are made with espresso and some type of milk (preferably vegan of course). Iced coffee is made with brewed coffee that has either been poured over ice or chilled.

Starbucks Copycat Recipes (Vegan)

Looking for some incredible Starbucks vegan coffee copycat recipes? This is the section for you! I love recreating Starbucks drinks at home. They’re way cheaper, they taste better, and it’s better for the environment to just make your own!

Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso (Starbucks Copycat!)

This Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso is the ultimate Starbucks dupe! Homemade brown sugar syrup with hints of cinnamon and vanilla, shaken with espresso and finished with creamy oat milk. This frothy, homemade version absolutely beats the Starbucks version! It would go great with my Cinnamon Latte Oatmeal Cookies too.

Vegan Berries & Cream Pink Drink (Starbucks Inspired)

berries & cream pink drink

This easy homemade recipe for a Starbucks-inspired Vegan Berries & Cream Pink Drink tastes like summer in a cup. Homemade strawberry syrup made with fresh strawberries, a splash of vanilla, nondairy milk and ice makes this the most refreshing drink you’ll have all week. I love homemade drinks because you can really control the sweetness and customize it exactly how you like. Don’t love strawberries? Try this with any fruit! Mango, blueberry, raspberry and peach would all be delicious!

Dairy-Free Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew (Starbucks Copycat!)

starbucks takeout cup with pumpkin cream cold brew coffee drink

This Dairy-Free Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew inspired by Starbucks’ popular fall drink. It’s easily one of my favourite cold coffee drinks to indulge in during the fall season. Make it from the comfort of your own home with just 5 ingredients in 5 minutes, including a homemade pumpkin spice sauce!

Iced Toasted Vanilla Oat Milk Shaken Espresso

In this recipe we are recreating Starbucks’ spring drink: the Iced Toasted Vanilla Oat Milk Shaken Espresso! I tried the Starbucks Toasted Vanilla Oatmilk Shaken Espresso and… hated it. So I made an actual good version that you can make at home! What is the “Iced Toasted Vanilla Oatmilk Shaken Espresso”? Starbucks says its new drink promises a “twist on the classic vanilla flavour” with Starbucks’ blonde espresso, and notes of caramelized vanilla with smooth, creamy oat milk.

Iced Pumpkin Spice Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso

This Iced Pumpkin Spice Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso is a spin off of the extremely popular Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso from Starbucks! I made my own version for the blog and it quickly became one of my most viewed and recreated recipes EVER! I was soooo happy so many of you love this drink. It’s definitely a staple in my kitchen and I love that it became one in yours too! Save money, customize it exactly how you like, and spend less time waiting in drive throughs. Seriously win-win-win!

Iced Apple Crisp Macchiato (Vegan Starbucks Copycat!)

This easy homemade recipe for Starbucks’ NEW fall drink, the Iced Apple Crisp Macchiato, is my newest coffee obsession! It’s the perfect summer-to-fall transitional drink because it’s sweet and spiced with fall flavours, but tastes great iced! It’s the most perfect iced coffee to cool off with at the end of August, but if hot drinks are more your thing I included a hot version as well! Starbucks has this drink both hot and iced, so I’ve got you covered if you’re one or the other, or just like to switch it up based on your mood! I love that the idea behind the iced version was to mimic apple crisp à la mode (meaning, with ice cream!)

Vegan Latte Recipes (Hot)

If you prefer to cozy up on the couch or at the table with your hands wrapped around a warm mug, I feel you. Here’s some awesome hot vegan latte recipes you need to try.

The Perfect Pumpkin Spice Latte

Ahh the Pumpkin Spice Latte… the drink that signifies the start of fall. Usually way too early, but that’s why I waited this long to make my recipe. Where the Starbucks version hits shops around end of August, I feel that is *a bit* premature. I get it—capitalism—but it still feels wrong. However, a pumpkin spice latte to round out the end of September and welcome the start of one of the best months of the year, October, it feels so right. If you love pumpkin spice, try my vegan pumpkin spice latte cupcakes.

Shortbread Cookie Latte

Time for a new holiday drink recipe, the Shortbread Cookie Latte! You guys know I LOVE coffee, but do you know what I love even more? Super over-the-top coffee recipes that are even better than what you can find in a cafe. Today I’m showing you how to make this Shortbread Cookie Latte, but if this one isn’t your thing, check out all my other vegan coffee recipes here, or even my Coffee Shop Series on YouTube!

Salted Caramel Pretzel Mocha

Salted. Caramel. Pretzel. Mocha. Cocoa + coffee combined to make the mocha, frothed vanilla oat milk, a scoop of coconut whip, homemade caramel sauce and salted pretzel crumbs on top. I mean, you just can’t top this.

Peppermint Mocha Latte (Dairy-Free + Vegan!)

Introducing my Peppermint Mocha Latte recipe! Chocolate, peppermint, swirls of coconut cream and coffee. What more could you ask for during the holiday season!

Cinnamon Roll Latte with Mini Rolls and Coffee Glaze

Adding to my collection of coffee shop-worthy drinks you can make in your own kitchen, this is a Cinnamon Roll Latte with Mini Cinnamon Rolls and a Coffee Glaze! A sweet and warming vanilla cinnamon syrup, espresso and frothed milk, topped with the optional (but not really optional) coconut whipped cream, and mini vegan cinnamon rolls with coffee glaze. All of this recipe is 100% vegan and actually incredibly simple to make right at home.

Gingersnap Latte

I can’t think of a more “autumn” drink than something with ginger, cinnamon and molasses. Hence, my inspiration for this Gingersnap Latte! It’s basically autumn in a mug. It’s the coziest fall latte inspired by my vegan gingersnap cookies.

Eggnog Latte (Vegan)

Coffee sweetened with vegan eggnog, and spiced with cinnamon + nutmeg. This Vegan Eggnog Latte is the perfect holiday twist on your morning coffee. If you love eggnog, try my vegan eggnog cinnamon rolls, vegan eggnog cookies, or vegan eggnog French toast with maple caramel!

Vegan Vanilla Latte

This Vegan Vanilla Latte is my go-to when I want a coffee shop worthy drink at home. A vanilla latte is a staple in most coffee shops—for good reason! This is my favourite way to make it and it has so much cozy vanilla flavour. You have to try it! Don’t forget to check out the treat pairing for this latte: berry crumble bars!

Iced Vegan Latte Recipes, Vegan Cold Coffee Recipes and Vegan Iced Coffee Recipes

There are subtle differences between iced vegan latte recipes, vegan cold coffee recipes, and vegan iced coffee recipes but it was easiest just to group these into one big section. If you prefer cold coffee drinks, this section is for you!

Vegan Chocolate Cream Cold Brew

chocolate cream cold brew starbucks drink

Chocolate Cream Cold Brew: this Starbucks summer drink went viral on Tik Tok and I knew I had to try it. Unfortunately the drink is made with sweet cream which isn’t dairy-free. Here’s how Starbucks describes it: “Starbucks® Cold Brew sweetened with vanilla syrup and topped with a silky, chocolaty cream cold foam.” So this version is totally vegan and even more delicious if I do say so myself!

Iced Coffee with Salted Maple Foam

In this recipe I will show you how to make one of my favourite vegan coffee drinks: an Iced Coffee with Salted Maple Foam! The best sweet & salty foam with a hint of maple and vanilla. Perfect hot or cold, with coffee or chai tea!

Iced Blueberry Latte (Vegan, GF)

Are you looking for a refreshing and nutritious beverage that will help you power through the day? If so, you’ll want to try this delicious Vegan Iced Blueberry Latte. Not only is it loaded with healthy ingredients, but it’s also easy to make and perfect for any time of day.

Vegan Salted Caramel Honeycomb Frappe

You are going to LOVE this Vegan Salted Caramel Honeycomb Frappe! A creamy, salted caramel coffee-based frozen blended drink topped with coconut whip and homemade vegan honeycomb/sponge toffee.

Cold Brew Coffee with Maple Cinnamon Oat Milk Cold Foam

Cold brew coffee with a homemade vegan oat milk cold foam, sweetened with maple syrup and cinnamon. What’s better than a tall glass of cold brew? Well, a tall glass of Vegan Cold Brew Coffee with Maple Cinnamon Oat Milk Cold Foam, of course! Add some vegan chocolate chip cookies or cinnamon latte oatmeal cookies in there too for extra credit.

Oatmeal Cookie Iced Coffee

If you love iced coffee and cookies you’ll LOVE this Oatmeal Cookie Iced Coffee recipe that was inspired by oatmeal cookies! I love this oatmeal cookie iced coffee because it’s subtly sweet, slightly oat-y and perfectly spiced. Try it with one of my oatmeal cookie recipes like Almond Butter Oatmeal Cookies with Dark Chocolate Chips, Chewy Coconut Oatmeal Chocolate Chunk Cookies, Pumpkin Oatmeal Cookie Bars with Sea Salt Chocolate & Almonds, or Cinnamon Latte Oatmeal Cookies!

Salted Caramel Espresso Smoothie

I love coffee. Hot, cold, lattes, cappuccinos, smoothies, I love them all. My favourite way to consume my daily dose of caffeine this summer was in this Salted Caramel Espresso Smoothie. It’s next level, I tell ya!

 Vanilla Espresso Martini for 2

Like the above Espresso Smoothie, this Vanilla Espresso Martini recipe is definitely more of a coffee inspired drink rather than a coffee recipe. But it features espresso so I wanted to include it anyway! The best way I can describe the flavour is like a delicious vanilla iced latte… plus vodka. The vodka part seems weird, I know. I love coffee but I didn’t know how I would feel about coffee and vodka. But trust me—it WORKS. If you too want to experience the wonder that is alcoholic iced coffee in a fancy glass, try this recipe.

Cinnamon Affogato

And since we’re talking about coffee-inspired recipes… I HAVE to mention this Cinnamon Affogato. Cold, creamy ice cream with hot espresso poured over top. Seriously, it’s the best thing ever, and it’s best eaten immediately with a spoon. An affogato traditionally uses vanilla ice cream, but for a holiday twist I used the So Delicious Cinnamon Cookie Dough cashew ice cream and it was amazing!

Bonus: Vegan Chai Latte Recipes

If you’re not a huge fan of coffee or just want to mix it up, try one of these great vegan chai latte recipes.

Cookie Butter Iced Chai Latte

Yes, it’s another Tik Tok-inspred drink recipe: Cookie Butter Iced Chai Latte! This drink isn’t on the Starbucks menu, but it is sort of a “secret menu” item I saw on Tik Tok and had to try it at home. The woman said to ask for a grande iced chai with brown sugar syrup and oat milk. They apparently use the Tazo Chai Concentrate you can purchase in some stores (apparently, I haven’t seen it yet). So today we are making our own strong brewed chai, using the brown sugar cinnamon syrup recipe from this post and topping it all off with oat milk. It’s really so easy, but tastes really yummy!

Iced Dirty Chai Latte (Vegan)

I love a chai latte but when it’s hot outside (like it has been lately) it has to be iced! Adding coffee is what makes it a “dirty” chai and using oat milk makes it subtly sweet and delicious! If you like chai, you have to give this Vegan Iced Dirty Chai Latte a try!

Another Bonus: Vegan Coffee Cake Recipes!

Okay, okay, now I know we’re really not on target here, these are vegan coffee cake recipes… coffee cake doesn’t even have coffee in it! But coffee cake is a dessert that’s meant to be enjoyed with coffee. So if you’re going to make one of my vegan coffee recipes, you have to at least try one of my vegan coffee cake recipes too…

Vegan Coffee Cake

This is the best and easiest Vegan Coffee Cake! This coffee cake is moist, sweet, perfectly crumbly and has the most delicious crispy butter brown sugar topping.

Vegan 2-in-One Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Coffee Cake

banana bread coffee cake

This Vegan 2-in-One Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Coffee Cake is going to blow your mind! Chocolate chip banana bread and coffee cake layered on top of each other with a cinnamon swirl inside. The perfect recipe for weekend baking! I wasn’t sure if combining two of my favourite things would make something even better, or be a total flop. But I am so pleased to say it made something even better!

5-Minute Coffee Cake in a Mug

5-Minute Coffee Cake in a Mug! Fluffy, moist vanilla cake, rippled with cinnamon swirl and topped with crunchy cinnamon topping!

Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake Muffins

Cinnamon Swirl Coffee Cake Muffins! Soft vanilla muffins with a cinnamon swirl inside and topped with golden buttery streusel. What dreams are made of, basically.

“Coffee Cake” Baked Pancake with Oat Streusel Topping

Cake for breakfast!!! Today we are making this Coffee Cake Baked Pancake with Oat Streusel Topping. A healthy way to enjoy cake for breakfast and it goes PERFECTLY with a cup of coffee. It’s not too sweet—and lower in fat thanks to the substitution of applesauce for oil. It’s packed with cinnamon flavour and just the best alternative to oatmeal.

Coffee Lover’s Cake with Creamy Chocolate Frosting

Okay, now this one actually contains coffee! Coffee Lover’s Cake with Creamy Chocolate Frosting. Simply, the best. If you don’t know by now, I am a coffee-lover. Like, big time. I went 25 years without drinking or enjoying coffee/coffee flavoured things. Why? Beats me. Seriously, I have no idea. And then one day Greg told me to try coffee. And you know what? I’m converted. I love it! So, I had to recreate my new favourite cake recipe into a coffee and chocolate version.
